Cuzco
From 12/25/2013 to 1/2/2014
A backpacker's paradise! If you're hiking the Inca Trail, your trip starts and ends in Cuzco. Beautiful plazas, steep, hilly roads, and the mountains in the background make this an ideal destination to get away from it all. We arrived on Christmas Day and spent a few days wandering around, visiting the plazas and pubs. One side trip took us into the Sacred Valley to a spot where we could climb the mountain via ferrata, and then zipline down. Amazing adventure!
On New Year's Day, we feasted upon Cuy - better known as guinea pig! - before heading to the Plaza de Armas to watch the fireworks and celebrate the new year. By the time we got back to the hotel room, we were covered in yellow confetti (yellow is a traditional symbol of good luck).
